Putterham Renovation 2009
- March 2, 2010 • We hope to re-open the main portion of the Putterham Branch soon, possibly the week of March 15. As part of the preparations for the re-opening, we have temporarily eliminated WiFi access in the temporary branch. It will be restored when the main portion reopens. We apologize for the inconvenience.
- June 16, 2009 • The main portion of the Putterham Branch is now closed. A temporary "mini-library" has been set up in the meeting room at the far left side of the building. Reserved items can be picked up here, and we will have a small browsing collection: new books, speed-reads, DVD's, Books-On-CD, music CD's, etc. The current day's newspapers will be available to read, and there is limited seating. A substantial collection of children's books and videos will be available as well, and a little area for kids, including a computer. There are also two public Internet computers for adults, a print station, and a photocopier. The mini-branch is open normal hours: M & W 1-9, Tu & Th 10-6, F 10-5, Sat. 10-5.
Change in services
Update Nov. 17, 2009
Work on the replacement of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems is nearing completion. Over the next several weeks, the flooring will be replaced and the interior of the building will be painted. New furnishings will then be installed and it is our hope to reopen the facility in February. Staff continue to provide services from a “mini-branch” operating out of the Library’s meeting room.
What Is Going On?
The long delayed replacement/upgrade of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical systems at the Putterham Branch Library began on June 5, 2009. In addition, we will be replacing the flooring and giving the interior of the building a general “face lift”. Through the generosity of the Brookline Library Foundation, we will also be able to replace most of the fifty-year-old furniture.
We have set up temporary quarters, a "mini-branch", in the meeting room, which will be open until the renovated branch reopens sometime late this year.
While the meeting room is small, it will accommodate a small browsing collection and patrons will be able to request and pick up materials from other libraries. There will be a few days during this 3-5 month time period when we will have to close entirely while the building will be without electricity or when other major work might cause a safety hazard. Parking will be limited to the street. With the help of the contractor we will do our best to minimize the inconvenience to our patrons.
We appreciate your understanding, and apologize for any inconvenience during the this important project. We look forward to a wonderfully refurbished building reopening in the fall.
We will post closings here on this page as soon as we have them, so be sure to check this page before going to the branch.
Check the Library Hours page for normal Putterham hours. They are in effect unless a change or closing is listed above.
